Drink me and enjoy me! |
It was my pleasure to receive this wine to taste and review at home. This Riesling is the second of four samples I received featuring Finger Lakes 2012 Rieslings. I began participating in the Finger Lakes Wine Alliance tastings a couple of years ago. Since, I have become quite fond of Finger Lakes Riesling. Quality is strong and they are different from the local Rieslings I have access to.
"Americans are turned on to Riesling and the Finger Lakes has what Riesling loves: life at the cool margins and layers and layers of slate. There's no better place to find crisp, refreshing mineral-tinged Riesling in the States."Tasting Notes:
- Joshua Greene, Publisher & Editor, Wine & Spirits Magazine
Color: Light straw.
Nose: Round minerality, skin side of a pealed apple, toast with a touch of petrol. With air, a floral note emerged, reminiscent of delicate Jasmine. Softer pear notes appeared as the wine warmed.
Palate: Intense apple, with the crisp texture of a just bitten apple, more weight mid-palate than expected, vigorous dry apple on the medium-long finish, a dash of spice lingered. This wine is almost aggressive, in a good way. It reached out and said "Here I am. Drink me and enjoy me!"
Thoughts: This Dry Riesling has body and texture suited for robust seafood and smoked meats. I would welcome this Riesling to a picnic of smoked salmon, shaved ham and a fruit and cheese plate. Recommended. Drink now until 2016.
*Update: Day two this wine is drinking very well. Cinnamon apple on the nose, with mouth filling apple, dry your cheeks acidity and begging for pork tenderloin. A real crowd-pleaser.
